Blu-Ray 3D:Your essential guide of what you need to know

Now that 3D technology has been around for some time you might be fooled into thinking that it’s something that everyone understands and is making use of. However, as some of us can often be afraid to try out new technology and think it’s something that could be complicated so don’t take the leap. At Electrical Experience though we don’t like to leave any of our customers in the dark or confused by the latest technology on the market so thought we’d try and explain things for you and maybe convince you to try out 3D Blu-ray.
It’s really simple to understand. Maybe the first thing to explain is what is a 3D TV? It’s essentially a TV that adds a level of depth to the picture, giving you amazing images that are appear to you as if they are popping out of the TV screen and that you could reach out and touch them. 3D stands for 3 Dimensional and there are 2 types of 3D, Active 3D and Passive 3D and at the moment both types require you to wear glasses to view the 3D images.
Active 3D requires the use of glasses that have built in shutters that basically switch images in front of your eyes at a high speed to give you a 3D effect whilst passive 3D uses glasses that have polarised filters and are low cost. Both have advantages and disadvantages, the main one being cost as the active glasses are a lot more expensive to buy and need to be recharged often where passive ones can be picked up cheaply and don’t need any charging at all. Whichever system you decide on though generally you find that manufacturers include a number of sets of glasses with the TV sets so you can get going with your 3D viewing straight away.
So to enjoy 3D Blu-Ray discs what will you need?

• Most obviously you will need a 3D TV! Whether this be passive or Active it’s completely up to you.
• 3D Glasses.
• A 3D Blu-Ray Disc player. There are a number of these to choose from and most of the ones on the market now are 3D compatible. If you have got a Sony PS3 you can even make use of this as they can play 3D Blu-ray movies.
• A 3D Blu-ray Disc: There are now a large collection of these available to buy now so you should be able to find your favourite movies easily. There are more being added too as they are released. LGs new addition to its already impressive array of apps on their Smart TVs

Courtesy of What Hi Fi Magazine we have come across a news story we thought we would share with you all as we like to try and keep up to date with the latest news and developments as they happen!

We have now discovered that LG is adding in Mid-December the music streaming service Spotify to their range of apps available on their 2013 model smart TVS. Making use of the app will allow you to gain access to over 20 million songs so there is bound to be something to suit your taste and you won’t get fed up of listening to the same playlists over and over!

One drawback to this though is that you have to have a Spotify Premium Account which will set you back £9.99 but with the range of songs that you can select from and listen to we think this does offer excellent value for money. As a bonus though you do get a free months trial period so you won’t be losing anything if you just want to try it out and see if it’s for you! If you think about it buying that latest CD you want will set you back perhaps more than this and will probably only have around 20 tracks on it from one artist maybe.

With Spotify you really are spoilt for choice and can choose what to listen to and create your own favourite playlists to access whenever you want. You can also easily share your favourite music and playlists with others too via Facebook and Twitter if you want to.

So if maybe you haven’t yet invested in one of LGs Smart TVs yet then it’s the ideal time to grab one. Did you know in the UK we will watch an estimated 86 Million hours of TV this Christmas?

We have just come across this snippet of news courtesy of AV Forums and Samsung so thought we’d fill you in on it!

Samsung have been looking into the way we watch TV and what our viewing habits are and have predicted that in the UK we will watch a mammoth 86 Million hours of TV over the festive Christmas period! That is certainly some hours of TV viewing for us all. Most interesting though is that one in ten of us will turn our TV sets on at 10am (maybe after the best time of the day is done with which is unwrapping all of your gifts!) and a third of us will keep the TV turned on all day. (Although it has been found that in the South west of England that the peak time for turning on the TV is 3pm!)

So what kind of things are we watching on our TV sets you might ask? Well according to Samsung we consider festive programs to include the annual Queens Christmas Speech which come ahead of Christmas specials!

Not unsurprisingly though 15 million hours of our viewing time has been predicted to be watched on Catch Up TV services as we often don’t get chance to watch our favourite content over the Christmas period (or end up arguing as to who gets to watch what!)

However if you don’t currently have a TV set that will allow you to access Catch Up TV then this could be a problem! So in time for all the great TV Shows and Movies that are shown at Christmas then why not treat yourself to a new TV perhaps as we have a great range in stock that you can find by clicking here. Sonos Play:1 gets a Music Gadget Of The Year Award from Stuff Magazine

Now that the world famous Stuff Magazine have announced their award winners, we thought we would fill you in on one of the award winning products as the Sonos Play:1 has been given the Music Gadget Of The Year award.



 

As today's home and mobile music gadgets have had to change to reflect and fit in with our desire to access all of our music anytime, any place, anywhere the Sonos Play:1 fulfils these needs perfectly. Though its only small and compact, don't let its size put you off as you will be blown away by the sound quality produced. As with other Sonos products too its completely wireless so you can use it anywhere you desire, just connect it wirelessly to a Sonos bridge or other Sonos products and away you go. The Play:1 can stream music from just about any source you choose and is controlled via Android or iOS and provides a real hi-fi quality sound that you would normally only find on larger speakers. (So in this case size really doesn't matter, as if you was listening to one of these blindfolded you would say you was listening to full size speakers!)
